Streaming Flash Video

The Idea

An advertising agency located in Chicago, IL asked us to help build a Web site for the Illinois Department of Tourism. To grab the visitor's attention, the home page features an interactive streaming flash video.

The Problem

The creatives at the advertising agency wanted a specific kitchen scene that wasn't available for a video shoot. In addition, people and objects in the video needed to be linkable to other pages in the site. Considering all of this functionality on a single page, it all had to load fast on slower Internet connections.

The Solution

We used a third party video studio to shoot the actors on a green screen. Then superimposed the video on to the kitchen scene provided by the advertising agency. Then using Adobe Flash, the video is pre-loaded, buffered and streamed to the user. Using actionscript, objects in the Flash movie interact with user providing an interesting navigation to engage the user.

This site also includes an integration with Hotels.com white label service to offer hotel reservations to users.
